Adultery

Adultery is sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not his or her spouse. This is similar to fornication which is defined as sexual intercourse between two people that are not married to each other. Adultery is involving at least one married person.

Statistics tell us that this practice is becoming more common in Western society as we are surrounded by sexuality and God's Law is supressed. My former Pastor, Bob Coy who was Pastor at Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale, committed adultery with several women and had to leave the church. A Pastor at the church (Chet Lowe) made this announcement shortly after as gossip and rumors were rampant. A new "Lead Pastor" (Doug Sauder) was soon announced.

The Bible tells us that there are consequences for all of our sins, whether we realize them or not. The enemy tries to get us to think that there are no consequences or that we won't get caught. There are always consequences and it always seperates us from God. God knows everything and He is also going to judge us all for our works.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals,[a] nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

- 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

- 2 Corinthians 5:10

“For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.”

- Ecclesiastes 12:14

One sin leads to another and this is very clear when it comes to adultery. It starts as a glance at a person, whether a picture, movie or in person. Then we fantasize about something sexual with them. If it's in person, we may want to see that person again to lust. We may flirt or they may flirt and there seems to be a desire from both parties. Words may be exchanged, maybe some physical contact, and it may all look innocent to onlookers but those involved know what is going on in their mind and heart. Jesus said that adultery is not just about the physical act. He said in Matthew 5:27-28, “You have heard that it was said to those of old,‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already.”

This is a very important topic which is not often discussed from a Biblical perspective. I hope and pray that you avoid this deceitful sin which has trapped and robbed so many people from the blessings of sex within a Godly marriage. Remember that it starts with just a glance and then it begins the process of trapping you. Avoid this by loving God, your wife and others more than your selfish twisted desire to be with someone else. You will eventually get caught and it will definitely not be worth it.
