Homosexuality

Homosexuality is an extremely important issue for me to address as there has been a lot of debate lately as this has become a very public issue. I believe it is extremely important to clearly and factually discuss this issue. In this article I will define and explain clearly what the Bible says about homosexuality.

Fist of all, the Bible is clear that any sex outside of marriage (i.e. fornication) is sin. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:18, "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body." Sexual immorality cuts to the core of humans in a way that other sins do not. The reason is simple: it's intertwined with the heart and soul and mind, as well as with the body. Not every sin is like that.

Homosexuality is perhaps even more harmful. It has been reported that the lifespan of a single homosexual man, aside from AIDS, in the United States is only 43 years. This is according to a study done by Dr. Paul Cameron, Chairman of Family Research Institute, Inc. Studied were 6,737 obituaries from 18 U.S. homosexual journals and newspapers over 13 years; they were compared to a large sample of obituaries from regular newspapers. (Cameron et al. The longevity of homosexuals. Omega 1994:29:249-72). Whether or not the data is accurate, I believe homosexuals very well may have a shorter lifespan because this sin and lifestyle is so destructive, and homosexuals often have a history of sexual abuse, rejection, and other harmful abuses which hurt them, whether they can readily remember them or not.

The desire to sin comes from two sources. Our soul is subjected to fleshly desires as well as demonic influence. Those who are Christians have their spirit sealed by the Holy Spirit but those who aren't Christians have spirits and souls which demons can attach to, making them much easier to control and influence. When the Holy Spirit is absent, restraint is left to the moral judgements of the individual, but their spirit and soul (mind, will and emotions) are subjected to fleshly desires and demonic influence. It has been shown consistently that those who are homosexuals or have homosexual desires can be completely delivered from these desires. However, this is usually attempted without dealing with the root of the problem, and therefore usually unsuccessful. The homosexual individual, whether Christian or not, probably has demonic influence, and the only way to get rid of the problem is by eliminating the demonization. Jesus said in Matthew 12:43-45:

43"When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation."

It is obviously essential to make sure that once the demonization is eliminated, that the demons do not have the opportunity to gain control or influence again, but I am getting ahead of myself.

Some people have argued that a person may be born with a greater susceptibility to homosexuality, just as people may be born with a greater susceptibility to alcoholism, violence, and other sins. Some people are more risky, sexually driven, perverse, etc. than others but that is not an excuse. No susceptibility or influence forces the individual to choose to act on them. If a person is born with a greater susceptibility to violence, does that make it right for them to give into those desires, and be violent toward others? Can someone who simply finds young children sexually attractive have sex with them? Not in this society. And as a Christian, an individual has the Holy Spirit and God promises that no temptation will be so strong that we can't resist it: "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Some people are sometimes born demonized and a lot of people carry demons from their early childhood. I have heard this over and over. Demons want to attach to you at your weakest moments in your weakest times. They are constantly watching, as the Bible says, "...your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour" (! Peter 5:8). God does not create homosexuals. There is absolutely no evidence to suggest this, and the evidence suggests the opposite. Check the facts, not the gossip.

It has also been pointed out that most homosexuals are the victims of sexual abuse or it has occured in their family. Other times, the male was neglected love and acceptance from their father or the female neglected by their mother. A male may be mothered and feminized by their mother and it's worse if there is no father in the home. The same with a female who is brought up like a boy (or a "tomboy"). Again, this does not excuse the individual but it obviously opens this door and helps the individual ultimately get trapped and bound in these desires.

I find it amazing that some people try to say homosexuality is not sin and worse, that it's not clearly condemned in the Bible. That is why essentially no one ever suggested the Bible didn't condemn homosexuality until these people have recently. I have read their lame arguments and was sickened by their suggestions. For example, some suggest that David and Jonathan were a homosexual couple, that Naomi and Ruth were lesbians, and that both Elijah and Elisha committed pedophilia and necrophilia with the young boys they raised from the dead. They even go so far as to suggest Jesus Christ and his disciple John were homosexuals! How dare they twist the Word of God to try to justify sin!

All sin is offensive to God. Homosexuality is just one of the many things listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 that will keep a person from the kingdom of God. According to the Bible, God's forgiveness is just as available to a homosexual as it is to an adulterer, idol worshipper, murderer, thief, etc. God also promises the strength for victory over sin, including homosexuality, to all those who accept Christ as their Lord and Savior (Romans 6:11-13, 1 Corinthians 6:11-13, 10:13; 2 Corinthians 5:17, Hebrews 2:18, James 1:12-15, 1 Peter 4:1-3, 2 Peter 2:9, 1 John 1:8-9…).

The Bible clearly and consistently tells us that homosexuality is a sin (Genesis 19:1-13; Leviticus 18:22, 20:13; Deuteronomy 23:17; Judges 19:22-24; Jeremiah 49:18; Ezekiel 16:49-50; Matthew 19:1-12; Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; 2 Peter 2:4-6; Jude 6-7…). There is no other way to interpret it. William Lane Craig, a famous apologist, summarizes some of the verses:

"In Leviticus 18.22 it says that it is an abomination for a man to lie with another man as with a woman. In Lev. 20.13 the death penalty is prescribed in Israel for such an act, along with adultery, incest, and bestiality. Now sometimes homosexual advocates make light of these prohibitions by comparing them to prohibitions in the Old Testament against having contact with unclean animals like pigs. Just as Christians today don't obey all of the Old Testament ceremonial laws, so, they say, we don't have to obey the prohibitions of homosexual actions. But the problem with this argument is that the New Testament reaffirms the validity of the Old Testament prohibitions of homosexual behavior, as we'll see below. This shows they were not just part of the ceremonial laws of the Old Testament, which were done away with, but were part of God's everlasting moral law. Homosexual behavior is in God's sight a serious sin. The third place where homosexual acts are mentioned in the Old Testament is the horrifying story in Genesis 19 of the attempted gang rape of Lot's visitors by the men of Sodom, from which our word sodomy derives. God destroyed the city of Sodom because of their wickedness.

Now if this weren't enough, the New Testament also forbids homosexual behavior. In I Cor. 6.9-10 Paul writes, " Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be decieved: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God." The words in the list translated "men who practice homosexuality" refer in Greek literature to the passive and the active partners in male homosexual intercourse. (As I said, the Bible is very realistic!) The second of these two words is also listed in I Tim. 1.10 along with fornicators, slave traders, liars, and murderers as "contrary to the sound teaching of the Gospel." The most lengthy treatment of homosexual activity comes in Romans 1:24-28. Here Paul talks about how people have turned away from the Creator God and begun to worship instead false gods of their own making. Here is what it says in Romans 1:18-32 and the key verses are in bold:

18"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them."

Liberal scholars have done acrobatics to try to explain away the clear sense of these verses. Some have said that Paul is only condemning the pagan practice of men's sexually exploiting young boys. But such an interpretation is obviously wrong, since Paul says in verses 24 and 27 that these homosexual acts by men were committed "with one another" and in verse 26 he speaks of lesbian homosexual acts as well. Other scholars have said Paul is only condemning heterosexuals who engage in homosexual acts, not homosexuals who do. But this interpretation is contrived and anachronistic. We've already said that it was only in modern times that the idea of homosexual or heterosexual orientation developed. What Paul is condemning is homosexual acts, regardless of orientation. Given the Old Testament background to this passage as well as what Paul says in I Cor. 6.9-10 and I Tim. 1.10, it is clear that Paul is here forbidding all such acts. He sees this behavior as the evidence of a corrupted mind which has turned away from God and been abandoned by Him to moral degeneracy."[1]

In this article I have submitted a unique perspective and one you will rarely find in this society. However, I promise you it is correct and I have the evidence to prove it. Ask those who had homosexual desires and received deliverance, and they will tell you exactly the same thing. There are many people out there who have expelled demons, myself included, and it is very clear what is happening when you see the spiritual side of this. I do hope that you are not offended reading this as I believe I have handled the subject properly. This article is very good news to those who are homosexual and don't want to be. They could have been born that way (through demonization) and the good news is they don't been to continue to be in that bondage and a slave to those desires.

Please feel free to email me if you have questions or comments. I can also try to help you find a deliverance ministry but I recommend you check some out in your area as I proably don't know any where you are.
